Ladies dominated the Czech Reining Championship held last weekend in Nova Amerika (14-15th of September). Klara Salkova, Marketa Zezulkova and Barbora Konopaskova won three out of five classes offered. And other women also excelled in all the classes. The riders offered the spectators some really nice runs and a lot of excitement, especially on Sunday.

The show hosted by the Czech Equestrian Federation and the HRCC Nova Amerika consisted of two go-rounds in Junior, Senior, Amateur, Youth and Futurity reining. The riders had to qualify in a series of reining shows held in Celadna, Roznov, Kostelany and Nova Amerika. There was 29 horses nominated for the finals on the 14-15th of August. The show was judged by Mr. Klaus Fock (Austria), Mr. Jaroslav Havlik and Mr. Jaroslav Dolezan (both from the Czech Rep.). A set of medals was prepared for each category and Montana Sliversmith buckles for the winners. In Futurity reining (for 3-years-old horses) eight horses participated in the qualifying shows and four of them entered the finals in Nova Amerika. Pavel Orel astride Pretty Miss Starbuck, a sorrel mare by Tom McCutcheon’s stallion Smart Starbuck, earned 194 points in the first go. 200,5 points scored in the second go gave him a total of 394,5 points and the first place. Second, with a composite score of 376,5 points, was Lukas Brucek on Pedro. Hynek Fister astride Mitos Monitor came third with a score of 368. Ten starters fought for the first place in the Youth class. Barbora Konopaskova with an Appaloosa stallion Ramba Watani performed two correct runs and scored a total of 392,5 points. On Sunday morning Marketa Zezulkova earned the highest score of the Youth reining: 204 points, but it wasn’t enough to win the class. She finished second with Smart Maky Lena (owner: I. Zezulkova), a 4-years-old sorrel mare by Modelena Tee and out of Streakin Little (by Smart Little Lena). Third place was reserved for Marketa Schreinerova with Mg Joe (387 points). Tomas Martinek astride A Hollywood Sweetie (owner: P. Malis) was topping the Junior reining after the first go. With a score of 208,5 he was on the best way to win the Champion title. Unfortunatelly an overspin in the second go resulted in a 0-score. So, the Youth reining honors went to Karel Kubata on Percy Hollywood (owner: R. Jirak), who scored 206,5 points twice. Percy Hollywood is a 4-years-old stallion by Jac O Rima and out of IR Berta. The reserve Champion title went to Klara Salkova riding a 4-years-old bay mare Doc Toni Tee (owner: I. Zezulkova). This pair scored 400 points: 198 in the first go and 202 in second go. It was a very succesfull show for this horse trained by Klara Salkova. Later in the day Marketa Zezulkova won with her the Amateur reining Champion title. Doc Toni Tee was imported to the Czech Republic from Germany. This mare is by Quiotini Tee and out of Jazzy Perspcription. Veronika Jahodova astride a half-QH Lancelot took the third place with a composite score of 391,5. The highest score of this class was posted by Irena Machalikova with April Doc Olena (owner: V. Mandak). After a 0-score in the first go, Irena scored 212,5 points, showing nice spins and good speed control. April Doc Olena is the first ever horse bred in Czech Republic to be shown during Breeders Futurity in Kreuth. As it has been told above, in the Amateur reining Marketa Zezulkova riding Doc Toni Tee topped a field of nine riders. With 202 points in the first go and 204,5 in the second go she won the Championship title. Six points behind her was Martina Zadnikova with JD Looks Smiling, a 6-years-old gelding owned by Vladimir Mandak. Lukas Jirak on Pokeys Easter Star placed third, earning 397,5 points. Finishing up the show was the Senior reining class. It was a clash between the best Czech riders, members of the Czech reining team. After the first go Klara Salkova riding Smart Chiconita (owner: K. Salkova) took the lead with the highest score of the show: 210,5 points. Second was Karel Barotek on Miss Bobby Jac Scoot (owner: P. Julina) with a score of 207,5. Irena Machalikova riding Peppy Golden Scooter and Ivan Cernoch with Littles First followed. The second go held on Sunday gave us a lot of excitement. Irena Machalikova entered the arena as the third rider. A very good run with fast spins and good sliding stops resulted in the highest score of the whole show: 216,5 points. At this time Machalikova took the lead with 420,5 points. Klara Salkova entered the show pen just after her. She handled perfectly the pressure and did a very nice and clean run with excellent speed control and big sliding stops. The score was 213 and the composite score was 423,5. But it wasn’t the end. Karel Barotek riding Miss Bobby Jac Scoot posted probably the most spectacular sliding stops of the weekend. The audience was delighted. A score of 212 gave him the third place, just one point behind Machalikova. Karel wasn’t the favourite of the Senior reining, but two good runs gave him the third place on the podium. “I sow the seed of doubt among the favourites“, said Karel just after his run, excited with his performance. The last rider who could change the placings was Ivan Cernoch astride Littles First. He had to score… 220,5. “I’m not going to score 220,5, I’m going to give fun to the audience”, said Cernoch before his run. And he did: he finished with a score of 213. The composite score of 416,5 was enough for the fourth place. The Championship title in Senior reining and the Reserve Champion in junior reining were a crowning achievement for Klara Salkova. She already won this year several shows, such as the Autodemont Cup series, the Senior reining during the CZQHA Show and is leading in the Wooden Trophy series. With her 7-years-old bay stallion Smart Chiconita (by Smart Chic Olena and out of One More Memory) Klara Salkova is currently prepareing herself for the European Quarter Horse Championship in Kreuth.
